Every child an individual, every child to excel.
Clapham CofE VC Primary and Nursery School is a small village school in a deeply rural setting. Our village nestles under the slopes of Ingleborough, one of the three peaks of the Yorkshire Dales. Clapham School has a long history, serving the community in our present building since 1864 which was built by the Farrer family. Previously the school possibly took the form of a Dame School and it's footprint can still be seen in the church yard today.
Today our historic building is filled with happy children who take part in many exciting extra opportunities, such as our school orchestra, sports coaching, gardening, forest school and so much more. Each classroom has been fitted out with the very latest active panel whiteboards and our brand new Key Stage 2 class has it's own learning garden and a break out room for smaller groups.
We are pleased that we can offer a range of after school clubs that vary across the week and school year. Some are run by our teachers and some are pay as go clubs led by additional staff or experts from outside the school such as our Astronomy club.
As a small village school located in the heart of live-stock farming country, the seasons, weather and of course the animals are all important to us as we know how these can effect our local community. We like our children to have contact with the outdoors and be around animals, understanding their relevance in our working countryside. We are often joined by our school dog, Myrtle, a working cocker spaniel who came from a litter in Keasdon.
While the school benefits from it's beautiful surroundings, here in the Yorkshire Dales, we are fortunate to be in good commuting distance to Leeds, Harrogate, Lancaster and approximately thirty minutes to the M6. Travelling north, in thirty minutes you find yourself in the heart of the Lake District. The beautiful Lune Valley is very close as is the popular town of Kirkby Lonsdale with it's independent shops and busy night life.
